Peruse them now because February next year David & Karen's Hiking Page will be no more. MSN Groups were bought out and they are migrating to a blog style, the new format does not work with our site. We're not surprised, we knew this was coming. We haven't been able to update it for almost 2 years now. David created it in 2001 because it held all the info he had spent countless of hours researching back in the days before 'the Google'. It was free to host and now with 2 small kids we just don't have the time to create a new one and maintain such a site. Especially these days where the information is readilly available on forums and Google, and there are so many photo hosting sites...it is just past its prime.

I may look into Zenfolio, I was going to create my own photography site on Smugmug (a project I've been working on for a long time now) but was going to look at some other options as well. Thanks for the tip.

D&K, I'd also recommend checking out the Jalbum software, particularly the "chameleon" skin for photo sharing. It's quite simple to use and the chameleon skin has watermarking and no photo download options.
Coppermine is also quite a nifty free photo sharing software package with more administrative options.

After trying out pretty much every photo sharing website I decided on Flickr. It is not by any means perfect but it is better than the rest, in my view.
People can browse, search and see photos without signing up which is a MAJOR advantage over the rest.

You can view, search and browse photos on Zenfolio and (I think) Smugmug without signing up. They are both more expensive than Flickr for the unlimited account ($40 vs. $25), but the are both vastly superior in design and management features in my opinion. Flickr has better networking value if that's what you are after, though. Zenfolio is planning on rolling out a commnets feature, but for now is "view only."

If anyone decides to sign up for Zenfolio, give me a shout. I'll give you my referral code and we'll both save $10.

I have a few photos up on Flickr now, though I am fairly new to it and finding it a bit hard to navigate/organize photos. Seems you can't really click from one photo to the next in an album without viewing it as a "slideshow" and if you do that, you can't read the descriptions. Or maybe I'm missing something. I've only just started, but here's what I have so far:

I've also set up a Picassa account but I haven't put any photos on it yet.

Flickr does seem to be the popular choice. I use it for all the photos I want to share - family, work, trips.

I just got back into photographing the mountains after a thirty year absence. Check out the rockies section photo gallery for my growing collection of pics from Jasper and a few from Banff.

I plan to make up for lost time this year.

I don't do any of those.
I like to tell a story, in fact I think the story is more important than the shots. So I've chosen to present my pictures on hard-coded HTML web-pages. I wouldn't say that my pages are that great, but I like them.
