Default Sunrises and Sunsets

I'm looking for suggestions for some great places to photograph sunrises and sunsets. What are your favourite places?

I'm trying.

Cypress Mountain has two lookouts that are great spots we like to go to.There are several spots on Mt Seymour as well along the road.Another cool place is Deep Cove Lookout which is a 25 min hike on the Baden Powell heading west from Deep Cove.Last, but not least,I like the Lions View on the Howe Sound Crest Trail(once the snow melts)which is around 30 mins from the upper Cypress parking lot.

For close to home stuff, I really like the Spanish Banks area and the Kits beach area. Burnaby Mountain park by SFU is good as well. Further away, Montague harbour on Galiano Island is great, plus there are some bluffs that overlook Active Pass that offer a great high up view. I am sure there are some great spots by Lighthouse Park over in West Van as well, but I haven't checked it out yet. On my to-do list.

I've enjoyed taking some at the beach as well. Some of the ones that billdcat mentions, but also White Rock and Crescent Beach. There are some nice areas near the George Massey Tunnel. If city shots are your thing, you can get some nice ones at Ambleside. There are numerous parks along the Fraser that can make for good sunset pictures. I like the Lighthouse Park idea - going to have to try that one out.

Over on the Island, French Beach is an awesome place for sunsets. Long Beach is also great, but of course it would be; it's one of the top three happiest places on Earth (Glacier National Park and Cape Breton Highlands NP are the other two). I'd post pictures from both Long Beach and French Beach if my $%&$#@ scanner was working properly.

Cheers,

Chris

Fraser River is great for sunrises, esp if it's foggy out.
Any west coast is good for sunsets.
Ross Lake at dusk with a thunder storm building and striking the rock face mountains was real cool too.

I'm with Nomad on that one... Here's a couple I shot of the Fraser while at Derby Reach.

The best thing about sunsets and sunrises, is what you're doing at the time. I see some brilliant sunrises over Golden Ears, but it's just not as enjoyable while you're commuting.

St. Marks Summit on Cypress has a good western exposure for sunset shots. Bring your headlamp for the hike down though!

Another favorite is the top of Dam Mtn:

Here's a shot from River Rd. Almost everyday I'm glad this is my daily commute. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
