Apparently party balloons like to go to the Coquitlam trails when they die: they were almost as plentiful as empty beer cans on (and off) the trail!
Yes, I think since Mick stopped doing the running totals nobody picks them up any more.
Found and packed out another.

I see this topic "pop" up from time to time, so I thought I would add to it. Was at the Elk River Trail on Friday morning embarking on a trip to the Elkhorn ( TR to follow soon) in Strathcona Park. I saw this orange balloon with string hung up in a tree and couldn't resist....

So I found something new to me the other day, up by Squamish

A giant Nemo party balloon with a gaping hole in it, fully deflated - must have been 300 g of mylar in that sucker

The interesting thing was that it had a little plastic thing underneath like a zeppelin gondola with a circuit board and wires in it.

Not sure if this is just something that plays recorded drivel to the kiddies, or if it indicates this balloon was under more active control a la the more famous Festo air penguin that you can run like a drone with your iPhone.

Either way it was trash so I rolled it up and carried it out to the nearest garbage can.

Sorry, no pic. Was really wet at the time.

Coming down the northern extension of the Cabin Trail (S-9), the one on the SW corner of Mt Seymour, maybe 15 - 20 minutes hike north of Mystery Creek Falls, where the downhill road (first photo) swings west to a T-junction. Can't miss that glaring orange colour, attached to a purple string.

Sept '14. TCT trip from Hope to Chilliwack lake. I forget exactly where I was, definitely closer to the Chilliwack Lake side.

I was happier than I should have been to find these, I'm always picking up trash along the way, but had yet to come across some balloons.

11km up Nickelmine FSR , I've spotted a blue & silver party balloon roosting up in a tree. Too far away to get a pic with my phone though.

Found a mylar balloon near the mouth of Kennedy Creek in Lynn Headwaters on August 1. Ironically "No LNG" was on the balloon so it must have come from a protest meeting.

On the now decommissioned Aftertaste bike trail, about halfway down to Hyannis Trail, LSCR, North Vancouver.
Sorry for poor image quality, blame camera phone.
