Apparently, this icon is offensive to the thin-skinned.
Your private e-mail to me MAY have had a point, if you had been the starter of this thread, but the fact is you are nothing more than just another poster with an opinion.
When things don't go your way, you start quoting guidelines and rules...even though many of your threads are "pot-stirrers" to begin with.
Since you like to drag out the rulebook whenever it suits you, maybe you should pay particular attention to Guideline #10:
"...Never assume that someone is talking to you..."

Congratulations Mr. "Rant"...you've managed to gain another opponent....but I suspect this happens a LOT.

I see parallels to celebrity phone hacking. Who is to blame? Is it the celebrity for taking naked pics and storing them on their hackable phone or is it the one who hacks them?

Of course there is a parallel. There is a parallel with any crime or wrongdoing. The person to *blame* is the person who committed the crime.
But the fact that you are blameless often doesn't help you much once you're the victim, so wise people who do not want to be victims take what measures they can take to avoid being victimized. It's not their *fault* if they fail to do so, but it is *foolish* to ignore the fact that thieves of all sorts and other criminals do exist, and will take any advantages you give them.

TheShadow, I'm all for making inappropriate private emails public.

Certainly a good question. It may be a matter of degree. You can take it farther and ask if celebrities walked naked on the streets, should they complain if others take videos of them and show them on tv. Bear in mind that celebrities are celebrities because they depend on attention. A similar dilemma involves whether women are responsible for the disrespectful reactions of males to certain clothing styles.

Maybe this is why the word "reasonable" comes up so much in legal matters. We seem to agree, including westcoastpaddler, that it's reasonable to take some precautions against theft. If we didn't, we would soon have nothing, and that doesn't seem reasonable either.

Society regards theft as so unreasonable that there are clear and explicit laws against it, yet theft has survival advantages that make it impossible to eradicate. So we have to protect ourselves from it even though larceny probably is in everyone's genes. I guess that makes us both victims and perpetrators, one way or the other.

Since TheShadow characterized my pm in a manner that has raised suspicion, I will post that pm here and everyone can judge it for themselves. I can't see how in this context posting it could be seen as unfair.

"This pm is in accordance with CT Guideline #3, which asks us to initiate interpersonal complaints off-line, and regards your post in the Brazen Park parking-lot break-in topic.

I see your post as violating Guideline #4: “Refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or the such.” The intent of the graphic you posted is to indicate relishing conflict on the site. I feel expression of this attitude damages the discussion. I realize you are far from the first to make this expression, but I think it's time it faces the criticism it deserves.

The Shadow and I have continued our discussion of the matter by pm and we are attempting to figure out exactly where each other is coming from.

Let me spell it out for you...I don't want to "continue our discussion of the matter by pm..." as there is literally NOTHING to discuss.
You have taken an animated .gif as some sort of personal insult or maybe you are simply trying to be the forum-police...either way I don't know/don't care, but this tells me I'm dealing with someone that is a bit un-hinged, and I don't see this "matter" being settled in public or private.

As for where you're coming from...again, I don't care as long as you stay there.

This site has reached an exceptional height of absurdity when people who break the forum rules throw crap at people who have the nerve to quote those rules. If you don't like the rules, maybe you should get the rules changed.

Once again, I see the reference/smilie about eating popcorn is used to cheer on brawls on this site, and I think it contributes to the damage. I, like everyone else here, have every right as per the rules to say so to you. No one is under any obligation to remain silent just because you may not understand the objection or over react. I did not take the smilie as a personal insult in any way, shape or form, because I know you didn't intend it as a personal insult. Unfortunately despite being told several times you still don't seem to grasp why I object to it.

A post you have since replaced did indeed support me but was also demeaning to westcoastpaddler. You said I'd pwn'd him in the argument. I have every right to call you out for an irrelevant quip that added nothing to the discussion and insulted someone. Had I not criticized your post, I would have been open to a charge of letting things slide, or hypocrisy, if the comment supported me but was also a forum violation.

This site has reached an exceptional height of absurdity when ONE PERSON goes on some personal crusade, to ensure that every rule and guideline is followed to the letter. Hoping for a Moderator's job?

You take yourself far more seriously than most of us do...lighten up, you'll live longer. Or is it more important to you, to get the last word in?
