What beer are you drinking right now?

I've been swinging back from the heavier trappist beers (Chimay Blue cap) in favour of light, fruity lagers (Heineken, if you can believe it)..

I tried a nice dark lager, Guinness black lager, in Forida, but you can't get it in Canada, apparently.. Another good one I can't find any more is Belhaven Wee Heavy, out of Scotland.

What are your current favourites?

Hmm there's thread with the same title on the "Homebrew talk" forum, but hey that is a homebrewing forum after all ;)

Okay I so happen to be drinking my own all-grain homebrewed hopped red ale at this moment and was previously enjoying my Falconer's Flight IPA. Favorite current beer? Oh there are so many commercial varieties, so I'll limit it to:

Driftwood Fat Tug IPA, Lighthouse brewing Switchback IPA, Parallel 49's "Lord of the Hops"
Parallel 49's Salty Scot Scotch Ale, Howe Sound's Super Jupiter Grapefruit Ale, Innis & Gunn's Rum Cask Ale...I could go on.

You really can't go wrong with anything Innis & Gunn puts out, though I will say that the price of the spiced Rum finish was ridiculous ($5 per bottle).

I think I might crack one of those Waterloo Original Darks in my fridge right now. It's my current beer muse.

Right now, I'm enjoying a good old Phillips Amnesiac Double IPA. Will be cracking a Howe Sound Super Jupiter Grapefruit Ale tomorrow, to start my weekend off right. Saving a Driftwood Old Barrel Dweller for a special occasion.

I am not a picky beer drinker, if it is cold, I drink it.

I like that one, too.. I also tried a seasonal treacle porter of theirs that was really good..

IPA all the way... and seriously, brew yer own ya lazy uncultured gnats.

hafilax 03-08-2013 09:36 AM

I've been getting growlers from Parallel 49 (Ugly Sweater and their wheat ale) and Powell St. Craft Brewery (Pale Ale that was too hoppy to be an ale to me). I'm lucky to have a bunch of craft breweries in my neighbourhood.

BillyGoat 03-08-2013 09:39 AM

Haha monster on that note go with all-grain brewing instead of using those Brewhouse kits. I'll also add that for sour beer you can't beat the Rodenbach Grand Cru. I had one last week and it was amazing.

I also had a Deschutes Abyss that Id been cellaring for a year and it was outstanding; better than the black butte XXIII. If you don't mind paying over 10.00 for a 22oz beer you can get some pretty amazing stuff.
Incidentally concerning IPAs Ive come up with an all-grain recipe rhat's pretty close to the Driftwood Fat Tug IPA

Monster 03-08-2013 12:58 PM

Ya funny you should mentioncause I just happen to be at Russle Foods looking at a giant witches culdron to try exactly that...

I'm no connoisseur but the Fat Tug IPA was pretty amazing.

Is it just me or is there a hoppy beer trend happening right now? If so, any logic behind this?
