Tonight's beer is the latest IPA from Old Abbey Ales in Abbotsford. American style IPA featuring Centennial and Simcoe hops.

Driftwood Fat Tug IPA, very nice hoppy flavour. I am liking it.

Default Powell Street, Yellow Dog, Storm, and Four Winds

My personal favourite beer is essentially any from Powell Street Brewing, Storm Brewing, Yellow Dog Brewing or Four Winds Brewing. They're all making exceptional IPAs.

I know Billygoat made a comment about high IBU levels, and how it would be hard to find one on a commercial level, but Powell has done it. They've released their New Kind of Crazy double IPA; 9% abv and 150 IBUs. It's quite good; probably the best double IPA I've had.

Storm is awesome for their brainstorms; that's the label for their specialty beers. I was at the brewery and noted that they had created a Devil's Club IPA. I'll just say that it tastes like what the plant smells like. I instantly remembered trips gone by, where bushwhacking was the highlight.

Doug, since you're out near Prince George, have you tried Scandal Brewing in PG? They produce some decent brews.

Lastly, if any of you are interested in trying some non-hopped beer, give the Heather Ale from Saltspring Island Ales a go. I've found that it's quite refreshing and brewed with heather flower, but I will add that I question their quality control. I've had a few bombers that were sour in taste; perhaps a defect?

Lastly, 12 breweries and 12 beers = Brews Brothers Collaboration Pack. I'm pretty excited about this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...53157976729345.

Anything above 100IBU can't really be discerned as being more in the way of bitterness. I don't think anyone can taste the difference between say 110 and 140IBUs. I had a beer out of NZ that claimed to be 167IBU and on paper that may be so (I've made IPAs that according to my brewing software said it was over 200 IBU) but again, such high numbers don't really mean anything past 100 and is more just a marketing gimmick.

Persphone Barley Wine - I'm not normally a fan of barley wines but this is a solid beer. A big malty backbone to help with the alcohol heat but not too sweet which is my problem with barley wines. 4/5 stars.

PS: Not one to drink alone at 11.9%
