I've just read through this thread, then I got down on the floor in push up position. Yes, I can do full push ups. I am a 60 yr old woman and have been mountaineering and hiking for about 35 years. In my 20's and 30's I did karate and had to do push ups as part of the training regime.
I don't see how being able to do push ups has any bearing on my ability to haul my pack up and down mountains. But maybe because I can haul that heavy pack around is the reason I can do push ups.
Anyway, good luck to you with your training plan.
