Default Fat Dog - Heather Trail Apr.14/21

This trip was chosen for minimal avy risk, since most other mountains had seriously bad avalanche ratings.

Weather was perfect; early start 8:30 am got three of us on a icy crunchy snow path all the way to end of the trail below the sloping climb up to Fat Dog. Snow had soften up with late morning warming, and I separated from my companions and took a break to enjoy views from fat Dog. Beyond that snow got very sticky, and the snowshoes I put on got rather heavy and tiring, made it up near the Heather trail; my companions Ingrid and Paul made it up to 2nd Brother and returned to meet me down at my location.

This hike was somewhat a repeat of last year except here we were 6 weeks earlier, and the entire route was snow-bound.

The hike came to about 19 km return, approximately 1000 meters net elevation gain.

Took about 2 hours 50 minutes to reach Fat Dog from trailhead.... beyond that self lost energy, and was a slow plod to where I stopped.

The near summer like temperatures, efffort and dehydration leads to serious fatigue if one is not alert to one's condition.

Thank you Martin.

I have spent a lot of time last year in Manning, probably again this year. my favourite area next to Mt. Baker National forest which is not accessible at this time
