Default Summer on Crest Mountain

This was a trek Doug and I did last August to Crest Mountain in Strathcona Park, Van Island. We made it to the trailhead at noon on a Friday and hiked out on Saturday after camping the night. Sunset was unbelievable!
Pics are here and story is in the link below.

Yes, they tell me it can be rather ordinary compared to when we were there!

Great stuff. So many beautiful mountains there and remote feeling. If you look at the big map Strathcona park really is the foothills of the Waddington range. We took a run at Kings peak a few years ago, super trip. Except for the mice that raided our overnight parked car for food. Too smart were those little buggers!

Strathcona is gem. Was just looking the other day into 1-way traverse Buttle Lake to Great Central Lake via Bedwell / Cream / Love Lakes and Della Falls. Besides logistics, crux is highline link between Cream and Love Lakes via Septimus col, but in optimal conditions apparently quite doable as hike only. This is crux snowfield from Cream Lake side, taken from Strathcona Wilderness Institute page

People have also used Drinkwater drainage from col above Little Jim Lake, but it is apparently very tedious. Lots to explore & still untouched wilderness to large extent
