Default EC MANNING - WINDY JOE, Deep Snows Nov.15/20

Another great adventure with Ingrid Kilde; choice was Windy Joe above a few others. A drive up during moderate to heavy snow with road mostly snow covered from Hope Slide onwards. Entered the branch road which takes you to Lightning Lake, past the Manning Park Lodge. Took some time to find a place to park, since roads were not plowed and no real place to park. Settled right in front of the info sign for PCT and Windy Joe Trails. Temperature near zero to start, and snow deep and heavy.

We headed up the Simulkameen trail, 2 or 3 km of nice level to gentil slope until we hit the juction, from there the snow got deeper............
Followed skii tracks all the way to the junction turnoff where the trail heads out to Frosty apart from Windy Joe. Huge thanks to Ingrid for her impressive trail breaking; never would have made it up there without here. Skii trail continued onwards in direction of Frosty, we turned left and were the first to track up. Started at 40 cm depth, and near 60 cm deep in places near the lookout.

It ended up an exhausting day, still hard work to snowshoe down the access road, as snow quite deep, heavy, and my weight took me down almost to knee level. Down a few km, snow cover was near 30 - 40 cm on the trail and easier to continue. Used headlamps for about 1/2 hour or less on the way back.

Entered the side road around Manning Park Lodge....

Very Nice Karl. Manning park is always a great destination!
I haven't had a decent hike in a while, hopefully this weekend.

Hi Martin, thank you for your comment.

This place is a great destination, on the day we did it... exhausting ,,, I ended up getting sick with nausea and more. Doctor' test revealed nasty stomach bacteria. so scaled back hiking out a lot, now plan to get back on the hiking saddle and resume as before
