On Saturday I headed out with Maciej check out this hike in the Chilliwack River Valley. I had never been here before and it looked pretty straight forward, decent amount of elevation gain with possibly some snow higher up. Pretty good driving on the highway these days allowed us to get there in less than 2 hours. I was surprised at all of the campers on the side of the road driving up the Chilliwack Valley. Every nook and cranny had some sort of trailer, car with tarp and some chairs. Well, at least people are getting outdoors.
We arrived at the large Post Creek trailhead parking lot at about 7:45. The gate was still closed but a few cars were already inside. Since the gate was not locked we just let ourselves in and parked. Clouds were still obscuring the peaks.
It is very easy to find the right way, there is a sign directing you to the right (Left goes to Lindeman/Greendrop lakes) and with a heavily beaten footpath you can't make a wrong turn. We made our way quickly up the good quality BC Parks trail. Nice green forest, steady grade, not muddy or bushy. There is good water on the trail lower down, then about a 600m vertical stretch where there is no water until about 1500m when you're getting to the upper part of the bowl. Shortly after this the snow started and it was a bit difficult at times to see where the trail went. At the col we turned left and followed sections of ribbon and beaten path for the most part, and also up a couple of steep-ish snow slopes. The top area was mostly bare with a few large snow patches. Good views into the Post Creek valley to the north, and no wind. The sun was trying to come out but no luck on this day. We waited til 11:30 to see if it would clear up but it stayed cloudy, the high peaks were hidden in the clouds. Except Mt. Wittenberg, which you could see occasionally.
Heading down we passed a group of about 10 below the pass, heading up in the snow. And another guy who had pushed /ridden his bike up to the snow.
We got down in a couple of hours to a very crowded parking lot. Someone asked if she could have our spot and we said sure, but it will take 10-15 mins to change shoes, etc. She had no problem waiting.
I'd do this hike again when the weather is nicer, as a loop through Greendrop/Flora lakes and maybe in the fall, I suspect some of the trees in the forest lower down would have some good colors.

Very nice. If you come back on a bluebird day, views of Chilliwack Lake can be really stunning.

Yup, on this hike I think the brews on the mountaintop would be more enjoyable than at the trailhead!

To this day I still have not had a beer on a summit. I guess on certain trips it would be a nice treat. I like the reward at the end, but yeah as you said this trip you are around a gong show of cars. Everyone or majority goes to the lake, good call on going for Flora.
