This trip adventure I have desired to execute after completing the Fat Dog to Brothers route. Paul and I joined up for a Wednesday -weather forecast for part sun proved true to form. I parked just outside the Allison Pass Works Yard gate, geared up and ready to go by 8:30 am.. We followed by the recent created trail to the old spur road up, followed that all the way to the defunt Radio Satellite dish. Snow patches just started up just before it, we enter the forest and found someone had created a wide path of access by cutting through logs, and sawing down small and medium sized trees. This was easy to follow marked with orange and blue flagging, turned all the way well past Kelly Peak Summit.
Took a nice 15 -20 minute break at the open lookout of Kelly's west side, then headed down and over to a wide bench just south of the forest rockky nob. We hiked through the forest and then ascended on top of the third rocky knob to follow a great ridgewalk all the way to Nordheim. Turns out we stopped at Nordheim subpeak (just 10 meters lower than Nordheim) and called it the good finish for our hike and our lunch spot.
According to Paul's GPS, our trip was near 21 km return with 1000 meters cumulative elevation gain.
Note we used microspikes throughout, seldom postholed - as hard snow base was covered by sun warmed soft layer from 5 to 15 cm depth.
