Default The Trouble With Joffre

Recently I've put together a two part story on Joffre Lakes. It discusses the problems the park faces, some possible solutions, but most importantly some of the fun I've had there. Stories are in the two links below, hope you enjoy the read! Warning: It will take some time to get through, two drink minimum, no cover charge

Beauty write up and images! It IS still an amazing area that I go to at least once a year. I just make sure I get to the parking lot before the sun is up and I usually have the place to myself until the way back down.

Thank you! Yes, showing up early is so often the best solution!

That was well written with some great shots. I never understand why people leave their rubbish about where I feel it is quiet obvious that it is not the done thing, education is certainly key. Thanks for posting!

I know, right? You drive for miles because, damn, you just have to see this awesome place! Then you dump trash all over it and leave? I have never understood that

My wife and I were at Joffre late summer this year. Unfortunately it has turned into an instagram tourist trap. The garbage is just an eventual side effect. Sadly I will not be going back there.

That's good stuff, Mick. You really put some thought into these things. When i'm on the Island some time, we should get together for wee chat, short hike (recovering from nerve damage in a foot, ugh)

After more than 40 yrs of trips to Joffre, going back long before there was a park or decent trail, I've rediscovered the magic of it, by hiking there in winter. It's become an annual a ritual of ours.... like this, from 2 years ago: (at least the bags of dog crap and discarded plastic bottles do not catch the eye)

So still and quiet, maybe 2 or 3 people on the trail

I agree with this & think some places are just too special; all you have to do is carefully pick when to go, or simply block out all the nonsense and focus on beauty. For me Garibaldi lake is one of "the" places, no matter what. Or Plain of Six Glaciers above Louise; hit it in November when there is noone around and it is as good as Rockies get.

The trouble is not with Joffre... It's with the people who go there. It's turned into a woefully mismanaged instagram hotspot.
