Default Mt.Brunswick (June 9, 2017)

Did a solo trip in the evening up to Mount Brunswick to check conditions.

The lower trail is starting to get quite bushy and I got wet from all the rain on the alder and low brush. I think it's time to organize a work party to clear that thing. It's been many years (2009) since I've been up and it was nice to see a bridge to cross the river.

The trail is snow free to 1400m which surprised me cause on most trails it's currently at 1100m. The snow line is about 200m short of the HSCT intersect and after that ice axe and crampons are a must.

One should hug the forest a bit cause cornices do still linger. In the final stretch nearing the top out there's a steep slope that needs to be ascended and descended with quite the run out. On the return because the snow was sticky it globbed up my crampons and I went into a full slide down that slope managing to self arrest about 3m before a big tree well. I think it would have been better if I had my full mountaineering crampons instead of my Hillsounds.

The summit ridge is mostly a scramble but some snow remains on the traverse to the helicopter pad.

Looking off the backside towards Deeks Lakes (the first lake is no longer frozen but the second and third are)

On the descent after recovering from my adrenaline rush, I got rained on to the bottom so I sang silly songs to ward the bears away, decided not to care I was wet to my undies, and got to see one cute bunny.

Time up: 4hrs
Down: 2hrs

Elevation Gain: 1562m
Distance: 13.9km

Looks awesome! Thanks for the condition update.

Although is it just me, or when I clicked on this post, it was titled "Mt. Bishop" on the main list?

Yeah I made a mistake in the title, changed it on the post, but it seems it's not updating on the main link. I did Bishop a couple days before that. Happy to share info on that too
