With a deadline to get back to Surrey before 6 pm Vlad and I were struggling to find a suitable objective to end this hiking season... In the end we still wanted to do something "interesting". Liumchen isn't a big peak, but over the past several years it seemed to be fairly difficult to access. Right now the Liumchen East FSR has been graded so with a 4x4 HC one can drive to the upper trail-head at 1400 m elevation. But still, with the amount of elevation gain, loss and regain we had to be fast. I managed to drive up the entire logging road in dark. Easily attained Old Baldy and then lots of up-and-downs to get to Liumchen Mountain. We used the rocky gully on the south side to ascend. On the way back we grabbed Church Mountain and then went up and over Windy Knob. RT was about 8.5 hours and just as planned. We did get back home in time so that was good.

Oct. 12. The last day before that apocalypse typhoon arrival.

It's been raining for 3 weeks now, but one good thing, finally caught up with my trip reports..

Beautiful...

Last time there was in foggy rainy day with little visibility, had hoped to get up there on a fine day, but side-lined by back issues. Next year hopefully.

Nice shots !

We turned around at a very narrow knife-like ridge -- well past old Baldy.
