Default Mt. Killam trail run

I'm not sure if this was more of a hike than a run, or maybe more of a run than a hike. Regardless, the trail was as steep as I remember it being the last time I was up this way around 7 years ago.

The trail does seem to be in much better shape, a more visible path, clearer flagging which is nice to see. Granted, this is Gambier so treefall and overgrowth are still prevalent. I started from West Bay and utilized part of the newer 'Mountain Road' trails that were put in a couple of years back. It is a much nicer route as you avoid the long road approach through the recent ugly cutblocks.

Denied views at the lookout but still a great morning out. Gambier never disappoints!

We're just thinking of heading up Mt Killam in the next week or so. Your route is from West Bay, I've never done Killam from there. We always head up from New Brighton. Did you boat over to the west bay pier?

When I was up at gambier Lake last year I saw what looked like trail down to west bay from Gambier lake. Have you ever been on that trail?

I see you ran into the gargoyle :-) .... I stuck a fake cigarette in its mouth my last trip up there which was Feb 2015

Our place is in West Bay hence why I left from there, but the route from that direction is also much more pleasant and is almost entirely on trail. The Mountain rd. trailhead is somewhat hidden at the end of a driveway right where West Bay rd. turns.

I have been on the trail from Gambier Lake to West bay, it is now my preferred route as it is more direct for me and also more pleasant as it avoids any active logging and the clearcuts. Also, i took the main route to the lake about 2 months ago, it was in very rough shape, many trees down and that last section that drops to the lake is completely washed out. Its probably the worst i've ever seen it.

here's my Strava route for the West Bay to Gambier lake trail

Thanks much for that. I responded to your message with my email address. I'm very keen to try those trails. Ya gotta love Gambier, I first worked as a lifeguard at Camp Artaban many years ago and have hiked across, over and around the entire island ever since. Never get tired of it.
