I already have one in mind and it's super local which is another nice thing. But might be better off done with some snow. We will have to see what we can come up with.

Wow, I just reread your TR this rainy morning. That’s another fine adventure so close to home(Widgeon Pk. next?) Coquitlam is an odd peak in that although of modest height it is highly visible from so many parts of the lower mainland. Ted and I climbed it in the mid 80’s but at that time you could drive up to the ski area which shortened the trip considerably, something near 12 hours, also Or Cr. Had just been logged so the travel throught the clearcut was relatively easy. We’ve lost many logging road approaches, Shannon Cr. almost to its head making easy day trips of the “big four”, a spur of the Slesse Cr. Road that took you high on the Canadian Border Peak, Mt. McGuire’s old approach and many more. Less logging in the past few years, I know not. The beer can on the dash does not count for your next tailgate compilation,sorry.

In the 80s everyone was chasing old growth and the valley bottoms were logged out so they were heading higher and higher up the hill and the roads followed.

Industry crashed in the late 90s and early 200s, everyone retooled for second growth, which is in the valley bottoms where the clearcuts were 50 to 80 years ago.

So the return to the stuff that was logged in the 80s to get the second growth there will occur starting around 2030.

Shame i did not see your post for a partner i was up there 2 weeks ago.I remember that spot with the water over ice i walked around it.I turned around just past twin lakes my dogs were getting a little tired from marching through the snow.So now i have to go back and complete that hike.Good Post thanks

I suppose the secret to doing this kind of trip is being able to keep going long after your fuel light comes on.

I don't expect there are many days that Coquitlam Mountain sees two independent visitors. Camping on the ridge sounds like a sane plan.
