Headed up to Watersprite tower, snowshoes on from the car park.
Looking over to the ridge that leads to Dreadnought.
Steep climb up to the lake.
Slow going up to the lake soft wet snow we needed to head over to the trees to get up the last steep section before the lake.
Took the ramp up under the West side of the tower aiming for the ridge South of the Tower.
Mist rolls in.
Had planned to head straight for the ridge but then saw a route up to our left.
Heading for the ridge we saw a steep Couloir to our left dropped the packs and headed up, needed to kick in steps to hold our weight eventually we reach the ridge.
Looking over at the peak almost at the top of the ridge.
Glad to be on the ridge, further than it looked from the bottom.
Low visibility now and snowing lightly, heading to the peak we find it's a little dicey to climb up we'd left our ice axes with the packs slowly made our way up the snow to the South peak huge drop offs on each side, big cornice to the East, the ridge to the slightly higher North peak was snow covered and narrow there was a very steep climb with big exposure to reach the top. Way too risky so we headed back down.
Gordon coming down the Couloir.
Met a couple heading for the Lake on the way back, sunshine and a little snow falling as we plod back.
91/2 hours back to the car.
