Default Mt. Patchett (Cariboonies) Sept '15

The route to Mt.Patchett, in the Palmer Range east of Barkerville, is described in Hiking the Cariboo Goldfields by Edwards, Funk, and Stoker. The trail makes use of old cutblocks to gain the alpine. It appears the trail doesn't see much use. Views of Bowron Lk PP are pretty good, as are views of the seldom climbed Caribou Mtns.

I put a shout-out to JBomb, and he and his dog Maggie were game. His vehicle now wears a pin-stripe suit, as he drove us right to a crossing of Russian Creek. From there we walked up bushy old skid roads and through a cutblock up-valley until we reached the alpine.

View down Russian Creek. Mt Magnus on the right.

Wide open ridge walking

Yes... dude's in shorts... For a dawdler like me it's hard to keep pace with a cold hiker...

We reached the 2104m top pretty easily. It is a vast summit area. A cold wind blew, the coldest I've felt since last winter, a clear indicator that the times are a changin. We saw a couple bears on the east ridge.

Sandy and Lanezi lakes. Mt Kaza in the clouds

Overall it was a pretty nice day. The trail can also be used to access Mt. Magnus, a smaller and unofficially named peak to the north.

I think I was thinking of another range nearby with the same views to the east.

I like the comic sans font (goes well with the Saturday Night Live reference). Looks like a nice day.

Great pictures! Looks a little on the chilly side, but I guess that's fall hiking for ya.
