3 Days on the Coquihalla
My fav trip of this year...Needle Peak trip turned in to a 3 day Coquihalla Excursion.
There was some repaving going on around the Needle Peak parking area so I decided to head to Illal Meadows and check that area out and hopefully do a camping trip next year to do the peaks. Went to Needle Peak after but started hiking around 4:00 or so...never been up before...real windy..and late so decided to turn back at the first crux on Needle's Ridge around 6.
Camped at Falls Lake parking lot, lots of stars! Headed out to July Mountain in the morning...parked a few kms shy of the real trailhead. Heard a bull elk making its call at the trailhead, he was to the left when looking at the July Mtn Forest Rec Sign...couldn't see him though. Trail is flagged up up to the lake...very very windy at the summit.
Headed off for Cabin Lake later in the day....started snowing around midnight. Was sunny in the morning, headed off for Stoyama around 8am then just after descending from the pond it started snowing...a lot!!!! There was a 2-3 inches or more when I got back to Cabin Lake...packed up the tent and headed out. No snow/rain when I got back to my car....at the Lightning Lake turnoff.
Checked out Mount Thynne Area after...had fun rally car racing through those FSRs over the weekend!!

As of April 2015, Coldwater River Provincial Park will be officially undergoing reclamation activities for the next few years to return the entire area back to a river valley ecosystem. The area is permanently closed to vehicular traffic – pedestrian traffic is strongly discouraged due to the various current safety hazards that exist throughout, particularly at the entrance.

Great place to explore and enjoy. I love that area, done several of those peaks.
Nice, that's a lot of ground to cover in 3 days!
Really nice area to explore via hiking and driving!! Looking forward to the trips in the next few years
