Default Dewdney Peak July 6, 2020

Okay so me and Ashkan drove up Hwy 3 and attempted McConnell a beast of a bushwack the route up Lafourge Creek was a dumb one so we said fuck this shit and went back to the car, we still had lots of daylight left so heading back West I suggested Dewdney Peak since we both haven't done it, and there was a nice trail up it, unlike McConnell. 1 week later we would go back and finish off McConnell via a different even more ridiculous route.

A short video of our failed attempt.

Norish Creek FSR is an active haul road but there is room for a few cars to park at the first trailhead ( Dewdney Grind) or you can drive about 2km further and start at the Canadian Whisky trail. We went up the grind and down the Whisky trail to make a loop. When they call it the Dewdney grind it is a legit grind, it goes straight up and then runs into a fresh cutblock. The trail system is a mess now, and it's easier to just follow the roads, but then if you don't know where you're going you'll miss the cabin.

After the cabin the trail is in the forest for abit, but not long you pop out onto a new road system that takes you into another cutblock. From here you might need Gaia to get back on track to find the trail and from this point it's quite nice upto Dewdney's sub-summit. Once you hit the sub-peak you run into another fresh cutblock and need to bash across it heading for the true summit.

The mountain has been logged all over the place and the true summit is in the trees but we took a summit shot regardless. The trailbuilder kept building the trail towards a viewpoint that involves losing about 70m of gain. It's worth it to go check out the view even if it means going through yet another cutblock. They sure pillaged this mountain recently. Could be the crappiest summit of 2020 so far

Did a quick Instagram post at the viewpoint and then went back to the car.

It turned into a pretty long day and when we got back to the car the mosquitoes were insane, so we jumped in the car and drove to the bottom of the FSR hoping it would get better. It was better for about 5 mins before they found us. Quick beverage to hydrate then had to jump into the car after donating enough blood.

The Sumallo River is bigger than the small meandering stream it looks like from the highway!
