Anvil island june 20/15
This was a trip with several weeks with advance planning, Nick and I discussed this island and the hike to leading peak, to make it a group event and have other hikers join us in this unique event. A few posted their interest but could not make it, in the end we got a full boat of 12 people to take the water taxi (Bowen Arrow) across to the island, 20 minutes travel to and fro. We got pick up shortly after 7 am to depart from Sunset Marina, and just before 4 pm from Anvil Island to return.
This was a great event, about 10 km hiking distance return with net 900 meters elevation gain; has its own lake higher up and an imposing peak, "Leading Peak.", the path crosses the Bible Camp grounds, starts level, and soon climbs into a steep trail up. We found the sidetrail to the white spot (painted silver), had a nice break, and from there hiked up to the lake and onto the peak. We took several good breaks, and enjoyed the grand views from the white spot lookout, and again from the top. There is a set of propane tanks up there, plus a very large solar array.
At this time I will just add the photos below, and insert more detail narratives later. "Lost my home internet connection,"... so I am doing this from another location.
Enjoy. and hope everyone else adds their pictures what they can. Weather was sunny and views were grand.
Thanks Karl and Nick for setting this up. I had a great time, the group was a lot of fun. It's good to complete another of the 103 hikes, now if someone could set up a Roderick trip, that would be grand
Interest: What can I say, I love the outdoors. Backpacking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, a little cycling and so on and so on.
See you all made it to the top Saturday. Spent the night there with 9 other's last year on a very similar day as that. Even lugged up two presto logs for a little campfire among friends. We bushwacked up Liddell from Gambier Lake Sunday. Excellent views there two.
Interest: hiking, biking, running, kayaking, scrambling, snowshoeing, backpacking and ice-skating.
Fantastic day and hike! I really enjoyed putting more faces and personalities to names. (including sidetrips whom we met in the St. Davids church parking lot). Thanks again Karl and Nick for organizing this.
Very enjoyable to see this; there should be more such stuff, so kudos to Karvitk for continuously organizing club events.
Great group photo:
Would it be ok to tag everyone?
Yes, I think that would be a good idea. I am not sure of the three young ladies who came with Sean (Seboyle)
In photo going from left to right are: Doug, Jason, Jeff, 2 of the young ladies who came with Sean, Nick, Sean, Sarah, Nadine, Janice, and 1 more of Sean's group.
Sean's friends, three young lovely ladies are Claire, Laura and Lainey.
I am not able to match the names to their positon in the photo; so hope Sean can help out here.
