Default Joffre Lakes - June 13 2015

Drove up after work and hiked in on Friday with a few friends, doing the last hour or so by headlamp. Found some campsites in the dark and passed out around 11. Got up in the morning and hiked up to the left side of Matier glacier. Followed close to the melt water on the way up and had a fun bit of scrambling on granite slabs. Went and checked out the glacier, then followed a big obvious moraine ridge on the way down. On the way down we also spotted the trail leading up to the right side of Matier glacier. Oops!

In the afternoon a few more of our group arrived and so I trudged back up to see the other side of the glacier with them. The left side was definitely more impressive, if you're feeling adventurous and don't mind making your own trail. Almost went up Taylor on Sunday morning too but the rest of the group wasn't feeling it, so off to Howe Sound Brewery.

Agreed. Probably best not to go into the icefall, especially with warm weather....

Cool pictures though.
