Default Mt. Ogilvie making new trail may26 2015

Last year I started clearing on old logging road up Union Bar rd(Squeah lk fsr).
It's a right fork about 5km up Squeah fsr, then it's a quad size road all the way up (3-4km)!
There is a nice lookout where I park the quad to start hiking!

I've cut about 2km of alders on the road past the lookout, then I'm making the trail follow up the ridge line to the left! I ran out of ribbon today but will b back soon to finish it to the summit of Ogilvie.
I got to about 4300ft today, started hiking from about 3000ft!
Another 2km and 1200 ft up to complete the trail to the true summit of Mt.Ogilvie

Is that road still gated just beyond Kawkawa Lake?

There must be quite a few people out there interested in finding updated access to Ogilvie. I'm pretty sure only a small percentage of mountain hikers have done this one, though most are aware of it's presence.

And yet it was one of the first mountains in SW BC to have a European ascent, with the FRA coming around 1850, six decades before many of the North Shore mountains were climbed.

Hope and the Border Survey were the birth of local mountaineering.

For those of you who don't know where mt.Ogilvie is , it's the dominate mountain just to the north of Hope!

I had an urge to check this out today. It took 2 hours to get to the nice lookout, then about 20 minutes through the more brushed out section. At this point I came to a slide completely surrounded by dense bush. I spent about 1/2 hour looking for a way around to no avail.
Must come back with trail chopping equipment. Nice fall colours up there.

Good try Stu.

Certainly worth checking out.

I have done little hiking in the Hope area, certainly a few peaks I am interested in.

Default Hey Lone Wolf

A friend and I have been trying to access the peak from either side a few times now but either run out of time/daylight or have to clear too much Alder or Deadfall, are you still keen on finding a route to the top?

I just cut open the trail today up to a nice lookout and turn around spot !
Very close to the ridgeline up to the real peak of Mt.Ogilvie!

Only wide enough for side by side

Turn right 5.5km up Squeah fsr

Last Sunday (may 14 2017) I found and followed an old logging Rd about a half km before the top vehicle turnaround and Lookout.
The old Rd meets up very close with my original flagged trail .
The old logging road is a easier (hike) start to the peak than my original flagging farther up fork 5.5km on the Squeah fsr .

I made it up to the ridge line between Jorgenson and Ogilvie, flagged the whole way.
The is blue flagging tape just after(50ft) a sharp right corner where I started hiking up the old Rd , turn on right fork about a half km up where two socks (ran out of flagging tape on the way back) are tied on branch, then stay on Rd till u see flagging tape!

I will clean up the old Rd from alder to make it easier to hike soon and make it to the Ogilvie summit very soon!
