Default "Bluff Ridge"- May 2015

"Bluff Ridge" is what I'm calling a ridge that rises to the west of Bluff Lake, about 20km SW from the little village of Tatla Lake on Hwy 20. It may have another name, but I don't know it.

Bluff Ridge on the right. My high point is little peak at left end. Whitesaddle and Blackhorn in the middle. Seen from Tatla Lk village.

After getting a glimpse of Middle Lake a few weeks ago, and seeing that Bluff Ridge looked feasible, I knew I wanted to go back for some better views. Even though BR is on the edge of the mountains, I figured if I could get up high somewhere on it I would be rewarded with spectacular views, including of Mt. Waddington. I wasn't disappointed!

I got prior permission to park on private property (that's alliteration!) and started making my way up the rocky, scrambly ridge. The route was about 3400feet over 4.5km, almost all on rock, and with lots of opportunities to use my hands. I had views almost the whole way.

About half way up...

Looking down on Bluff Lk. I love the reflection!

A fellow baldy took an interest in me.

Wadd shows up in the middle.

Blackhorn and Whitesaddle

Zoom on Outpost Pk and Mt Bell (R). (I could be wrong on these ones)

Waddington Range:

(L-R) Niut, Razorback, Mullen in the middle, Blackhorn, and edge of Whitesaddle

(L-R) Mullen, Blackhorn, Whitesaddle, Waddington

Hell Raving (R) and Flyshacker peaks.

A fisherman's paradise I suppose... Sapeye Lks, Horn Lk, Patterson Lk, and Tatla Lk all visible.

Pictures never do justice. So much to see in the area, and a couple days here and there hardly scratches the surface. At any rate, I'm glad I was back in the Toyota before I saw this guy:

I did some other sightseeing while in the area.

Twist Lake looking at West Branch Pks and Projectile Mtn (I think)

What you are calling Razorback is Mullen. In the Niut pic, Niut is at extreme left edge, and Razorback is the next thing right of that.

Thanks, did I fix it good? Niut just looked too far away.

Yep. You can see Kontlan Ridge in between Blackhorn and Whitesaddle too.

It looks lie spring has come I was in the Big Creek area 2.5 weeks ago and there wasn't a blade of grass or leaf out! Nice pics!

We've been contemplating a car camping and kayaking trip to the area for a while now, so really like to see some of the sights and hear your comments. Hope you can get back there again this spring.

No Cowboy here! Visiting my friend a recluse, and kayaking and birding. No migrants then, they are probably in full swing now!

Candy Sack - Did you drive all the way to Twist Lake? I thought the road ended at the Foster Ranch between Twist and Middle. Confused as to how you got to the shore of Twist!!
