Default Wedge Glacier & New Peak - April 13, 2014

Probably should have rested after yesterday's sunrise to Panorama/Black Tusk but the weather looked like it was going to be another blue bird sky. Started at 5:30am (note: the road still isn't driveable). Got to see the pre-sunrise through the trees. Wasn't planning on going all the way up on to the glacier and on the ridge but again the weather was so beautiful. There were ski tracks going up to Wedge peak. Typical spring conditions - the earlier you go the better since you have a better chance of walking on the snow. Met one person all day who stayed at the hut last night. Funny on the top I found a glove I dropped there on March 21.

Oh man, you're a lucky guy to have ready access to these sea-to-sky gems. If we head up there third week of April, what foot gear do you think we'd nee to get to the lake? Spikes? Snowshoes?

Probably just spikes. Today I only used my snowshoes to go up the glacier since it was powdery. Even coming down when the snow was soft, I just had my mircospikes on. May also depend on how many people pack down the trai and what evening temperatures are like. If you don't mind some post holing you should be fine

Was the snow any good for skiing? Not too icy?

I always wondered about that area in the winter time, but the steep and long approach made be think twice
