Default Gentian Peak/Panorama Peak via Helm Route - June6

Took a vacation day today and decided to go to Gentian/Panorama Peak via the Helm/Cheakamus Route since Rubble Creek was closed. Started early, around 5:30am. This was my first time at Gentian and this exact route. I prefer this way then going around Helm Lake and then up to Panorama Ridge. Was glad I marked the point on my GPS where you go from the campground into the trees since it's like finding a needle in a haystack when there's snow and you can't see the trail. In summer when there isn't any snow you can see the footbed but with snow it's tricky because it isn't marked really. There are a few super old yellow ribbons but they are few and far between. In the morning the snow was solid and super bumpy (felt like I was walking on the moon) which also meant that my route on the way back would not be seen. The snowline starts at about 1350 meters now. I've been asked to limit photos so here you go

From the look of it we left the main trail about where you did on an old trip to make a b-line for Helm Glacier... I remember it as leaving at the "white rock", which I guess would have been of no help in current conditions :P

Depth of snow at the campground?

I'd say about half a meter but it's really bumpy the way the snow is melting. You can the same thing this time of year through Taylor and Black Tusk Meadows Can be a pain on the feet jumping from hump to hump

I went to the campsite on the weekend and agree that the suncups there looked like real anklebreakers.

Nice shots. Wish I had pressed on to Helm Lake instead of turning back.

Exactly the trip I want to do in about 2 months. And keep up the photos cuz there's another camp that appreciates them.

Ubishops, really appreciate your report and photos. From the way you came up, what is the km and time it took you to get up to top of Panorama Ridge.
