I remember seeing a skull in the snow beneath the south (left) peak of Howay earlier this summer.

Did some recon of our own tonight, along this new Tamihi "west" FSR but the gate was locked!
The ATV crowd have built some "bypasses" around the gate, but wifey doesn't like it if I take risks when she's on the back.
We scooted over to the other side of the valley to the old Tamihi FSR and followed the south spur (up the hill) to its end at around 850 meters. Your route became quite obvious from this vantage point, although I gotta say that it must have been a bit of a thrash once the new road ended.
Take it from me...Google Earth is a liar!

On the downside, they are clearcutting on a very steep hillside. Once the November rains start to pour, day-in and day-out...there are going to be some ugly slides in the area, mark my word!

Now that you mention it, I totally see the skull Jeff.

Ted, here's another, just for you.:D;)

If you insist Double E!

And smiles for everyone, thank you for the warm responses.
