Default Jackets on? or Jackets off?

I hate to try and read a hardcover book with that slippery shiny "jacket" on.
I always remove the jacket. Do you? How do you put up with it?

My wife usually folds scrap wrapping paper into a cover to, um, protect the cover.

I, on the other hand, rely on food and drink stains to give it a bit more traction.

I remove it and throw it out (or recycle it if it isn't too shiny.)

I like to use the jacket as a placemark.

Off when I'm actually reading the book, but it back on when I'm done for the day and use it to mark the place.

If it's a hard cover book I really care about, or one borrowed from a friend, then I use my book carrying case - it's made of some sturdy, gym-bag-like material that protects everything, including the jacket. It zips up when I'm not reading and has a sewn in bookmark and everything [8D].

Yes, I really do enjoy reading...

Gotta save the cover- book feels naked without it
I'm with Ryan and Greyhound on the bookmark thing.

Books are for worms. I only read magazines and free newspapers. If I'm hiking I take the cover off the magazine so I can go faster.

Off, then usually misplaced and found after I've given the book away.
