Default Frosty Mountain - city style: Aug 24

Frosty Mountain, Manning Park
Saturday & Sunday, Aug 23-24, 2013
Elevation Gain: 1150m
Return trip distance: 22 km (from Lightning Lake)
Ascent Time: 7-8 hrs
Summit elevation:2408m

I'm itching to visit Manning Park and return to Frosty, but, it's a long drive from Vancouver (min 2 ½ hours), and with a limited schedule, I'm planning to get that bit of work out of the way the day before. The lodge in the park has a $70 room rate this weekend, which changes to $130 the following week. Of course the cost can be lowered further with additional people so a group of 4 would only run about $20 each after tax.

Suggested Itinerary:

Friday Aug 23: Drive to Manning Park after work Friday, and stay in the lodge. Grab a bite, photograph the constellations, hit the hay.

Sat, Aug 24: After an early breakfast, we'll head to the Lightning Lake Day Use Area parking lot and begin the ascent. The trail is easy to follow so we can move at a good clip, but there's a fair elevation gain that picks up toward the end. After summiting and taking in the magnificent vistas, we trot back down and make it back to the city by early/mid evening.

Saturday's forecast for the park is cloudy periods with a 30% chance of precip. Friday is forecast to have light showers while Sunday is mainly sunny. Hopefully the system will pass quicker than predicted.

I live near False Creek and can take 2 people.

If willing and able, come join the trip!

Went up last Saturday. Rain stayed away but the wind was chilly. Have fun.
