XC Mountain Biking in SW BC

I love mtn biking. I hope that i could get some new ideas here for my next trips.

There is an excellent book by Greg Maurer “Mountain Bike Adventures in Southwest British Columbia - 50 Rides”. I need ideas for more rides of similar style, where biking uphill is the major part of the adventure. Some examples: Elfin Lakes, Black Tusk towers, Brohm Ridge, Blowdown Pass etc. Basically, areas that could be bike-able uphill.

I have googled some possible trips:
- Tenquille Lake
- Tween Lakes - Melvin Divide.

I would like to use the hikers smarts here. Do you recall hikes where you might thought: “boring mining road, too bad no bike”. Ideally alpine settings as the destination :D

skypilot used to be quite an adventure! 4x4, bike, hike, glacier, scramble
i think you can still do that

There are mountain bike trails in Golden Ears Park like the Incline and Alouette Mountain Fire Access trail. There are also quite a few in Manning Park....notably the Monument 83 trail but prepare for a lot of blowdowns.

Be aware that not all bikeable trails allow mountain bikes. For example, the regular route up the black tusk does not allow them (I don't know about the microwave tower road).

Anyways, here's some others

* Alouette Mountain (via Eric Dunning trail, Incline Trail does not allow bikes)
* Elk/Thurston
* Approach to Cheam (to parking lot, hide your bike well)
* Approach to Sky Pilot (avoid the gondola)
* Approach to West Ridge of North Twin Sister (in Washington)
* Overpass Query (click "Run")

Thank you for the incoming responses. Yes, the only legal entries to Garibaldi park are: a) elfin lakes, b) cheakamus lake. The BT microwave towers is legal too (skirts the park borders).

These mentioned i already have done:
“skypilot used to be quite an adventure!”
“Monument 83”
“Elk/Thurston”
“Approach to Cheam”
“Approach to Sky Pilot”
“West Ridge of North Twin Sister”

Please keep more ideas coming :)

Looks like you're pretty well traveled. There's a lot of stuff in the Chilcotins if you don't mind a bit of driving, but I've never been up there myself, but from what I understand, a lot of the good biking is on unmapped horse trails.

Yes, Chilcotins are the best. Spent there 2 weeks of biking. All these are part of the book i mentioned. Perhaps i will post the TOC of it to avoid duplicate ideas.

Come check out the upper Sunshine Coast, where one thing we really do have is logging roads that lead up forever. I know there is a very active mountain biking community here, I am sure if you google the area you will find some links.

Thanks susie. I have heard good things about biking on the SC. I should try, have not done yet.

Well, more places I'd like to check out, but haven't had a chance too:

* Cutthroat Pass (Washington)
* Cathedral Provincial Park (not certain if it's allowed, but I don't see anything against it).

The trails are documented in this map:

(Other than the recently built shorter trails around Gun Lake & Tyaughton Lake.)

MEC and a bunch of LBS sell it, it is also available online here:

Thanks Craig. Covered this area (with some exceptions), also outside of the map (north and east of it). The best XC biking. Also, close by, Lillooet offers some more challenging trips with of of them 2500m vertical elevation gain e.g. the molybdene ridge/lake.

Molybdenite Lake/ridge is worth exploring
