Default Nelson-Ymir Cycle Aug.01.08

As part of our holiday experience Julia and I were invited by her dear friend, P.Nina to do a cycle on the old railway bed south from Nelson. This is a mountain-bike trail which starts east of Nelson and extends south to Salmo along an old railway bed. The portion of this trail we experienced included packed gravel, loose sliding gravel and stones, wading through 3-foot high grass, and some well packed surfaces. We started at the 8 km mileage marker high up on the east side of residential Nelson, and did about 25 - 28 km of it, plus another 3 km to the old former mining town of Ymir. It was a great trip and here are some photos:

Map - I will add later on...

Photos:
Mountain view - - bike trail runs just above the upper fringe of town on the left and continues east up the valley towards the far mountain.

Mid way -- fields on abandoned old dairy farm.

Further south -parallel to the highway..

Wymar hotel and information board

We did a 5 km ride south and then back to Wymar, not too terribly exciting riding the shoulder of the highway.

Hiking is what keeps you young of mind and heart. When the going gets tough, the tough get going..............

My parents, who live in Kaslo, have a family friend called P'Nina who lives in Nelson... my sister was born at her house.

I wonder if it's the same person?

Lovely pics of one of my favourite areas.

Hello Lorien.
