Default Kettle River Valley Railway Cycle-Jul.30.08 + vids

This is to report on a brief tour of this cycle route we did last Wednesday during our travel to Nelson.

We entered Kelowna and took an east-southeast route which led us to the McCulloch Road, on a very 'washboardy' type gravel road and to the parking lot where dozens of cars were parked. We spotted a lot of walkers besides the cyclists doing this trail. Our plan was to do the top 10 or 11 km of the trail and return.

Map borrowed from.... .. we took the Myra FS Road (marked in green). We cycled the trail marked in gray, not the bypass trail (marked in red).

We cycled 11 km in and ll km out, took a few stops to enjoy the view and for photography including a few videos. This took us two hours to complete.

Here are some photos :
Around the parking Lot...

Getting started....

A panarama view to the north..

Largest and longest of steel trestles...

On the way back...

A final view to the north from car..

It was late in the evening, and time to head back. It was plesantly warm in the sun, but rather cool in the shade. The road surface was clean and easy to cycle on, a few sandy spots and some knobby stone not difficult to cross.

Hiking is what keeps you young of mind and heart. When the going gets tough, the tough get going..............

Nice report Karl! Nice new bike too... Your videos are always great. The bike video made me feel like I was in the pilots seat.

Them bridges are beautiful, it looked like the weather was nice and hot too.

So was it hard keeping up to Julia?

Thanks Chris. The new bike makes it a lot easier to cycle and much less effort needed to keep up with Julia.
