I have three spots booked on the berg lake trail (Kinney lake and Robson pass), and according to the rules I can only have on tent per spot. Does anyone know how strict are they with this rule? I was wondering if they would allow an extra tent ie. 4 tents in 3 spots (number of people is within the allowable limit, just an extra tent).

Thanks!

My understanding is that they are pretty strict. You need to attach a copy of your permit to your tent

Anyone know when the permits are going to be available this year? (Their website says January 2021 in one place, and that they'll decide early 2021 in another place)

I actually had a booking for July 2021 but, apparently, I booked when they had a flaw in their system and shouldn’t have been able to so they emailed a week or so ago to tell me that they cancelled me. I emailed back to say that that wasn’t classy.

I gather that the situation is still fluid at least for Berg Lake and Lake O'Hara. The deciders are likely waiting for the COVID fog to dissipate. Then they must decide about international travelers. Will tour buses be allowed? Shuttles? Many moving parts, and probably a good idea not to be too hasty so as not to disappoint.

That's exactly right. Official BC Parks website says Jan 2021 (instead of Oct 2020) but even that could get pushed further ahead. My guess is that they will open up system by end of March, but out of country reservations will not be accepted this yr, perhaps along with reduced # of tent sites

I would be happy if the CA border opened to US citizens -- so many excellent hikes have been posted on Club Tread that don't involve a storied destination needing reservations -- but as the months wear on, the probability of a border opening falls.

Alaska is the likely alternative this year. And that isn't shabby!
