Although technically in BC, most of the hike took place in Alberta.
I'm camping in Kananaskis this weekend and went out a day early to get things set up before the family arrives. I decided to take advantage of an early morning to hit Frozen lake via West Elk Pass.
The trail has largely been repaired with only one crossing of Fox Creek still waiting have its bridge replaced (all of the lumber is there and a few pieces have been placed across the creek as a temporary crossing). Weather was perfect as I made my way to the Elk Lakes kiosk and onto the Frozen Lake trail. The Upper Elk Lakes trail is still showing as closed and warnings remain for Petain. Except for a 10 foot patch of snow approaching Frozen Lake, the trail was clear. The lake itself was almost snow free, with only a small amount on the south side. Was even treated to a small avalanche off of Mt Fox on the far side of the lake. Lots of scat around, but didn't see any bears out. Great hike and I was back to my truck for lunch.
