The smoke is so bad in Jasper right now that you cannot even see Pyramid Mountain or the Colin range from town. Can anyone tell me if it's the same in Banff? Maybe it's time for a road trip
Ugh, that sucks. So much for pretty photos this weekend. Smoke and thundershowers. Great.

I was in Kananaskis on Monday and it was hazy and smoky all the way from the Kananaskis Lakes to Highway 1, but I don't know if it's cleared since then.

We just got back from Jasper yesterday, Thursday afternoon. I didn't take a single pic of the scenery because it was so bad. It's not the slightest bit photogenic out there, just dull and hazy.

We're heading out there again for a few days next week to do Verdant Pass among other day trips, hopefully the wind gets going and blows things away.

Pretty smoky in Waterton on Saturday too although it got better late in the evening.
Rain on Sunday knocked it down a bit.

Update on Jasper - It was so smoky Friday evening and Saturday that you could hardly see the mountains from the Yellowhead or Highway 93. However, a day of rain on Saturday and perhaps a change of wind cleared things up. Views on Sunday were better, provided it wasn't raining.

Quick whizz up Tyrwhitt today. No bears, no tracks, no scat. Great views from the summit though.

The summit register is presently missing - something rodenty appears to have chewed through the base of the container. All that remained was a lonely yellow pencil. Should I be letting someone appropriate at the Alpine Club know? It's not a big thing, but I guess they do like to maintain records.

Pretty hazy looking westward into the Athabasca Valley from the Skyline Trail on Monday. Looking eastward everything was clear. Still, a hazy day on the Skyline is much better than a clear day in the city!

What kills me is that there are so many trip reports coming out of BC with nothing but blue skies. It's not fair. We don't have a single large fire burning in Alberta

Calgary area right now very hazy, driving in this morning visibility +- 2 miles.

I just got home from Lillian Lake. We had fairly clear skies yesterday, but it rolled in hard overnight. This morning the smoke hung over the lake, and you couldn't see the mountains above us. Crazy driving out the top of highway 40 and not seeing a single mountain to the west.
