Default Where to buy hard salami

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place in Calgary with a good selection of meats (such as salami) that will keep for a week or so on a backpacking trip. I've heard the harder/fattier salamis work well if they're not cut, but after going through several grocery store brands and not being impressed I'm wondering if there is an alternative.

It's kind of like grocery store cheese vs. Springbank cheese....and I'm being a meat snob wanting the fancy stuff!

There is a German Supermarket called Eidelweiss that has great salamis and sausages and other treats. The address is 1921 20th Ave NW. It's close to Springbank Cheese

Good luck getting out of there with just salami... https://www.edelweissimports.com/

But I am very curious what you find.

It appears a trip downtown is necessary! It will also include a stop by Springbank Cheese.

Jeffski,

I don't know about all beef salami (is that a thing?), but Oyama Sausage Company at Granville Island is by far the best purveyor of handmade artisan sausage, salamis, pepperoni, bacons, prosciuttos and pretty much any other type of cured meat you can think of. A lot of it is Canadian Heritage Pork, they have duck prosciutto, bison etc. etc.

Definitely worth a look. http://www.oyamasausage.ca

Their hot and their honey garlic pepperoni has accompanied me on many a journey.

And while we're talking portable meats, these guys are also notable (and of Dragon's Den Fame).

Jeffski - beef salami does exist!

Found it on the Oyama Sausage Co. order form

Elk, Wild Boar, Organic Beef or Bison Salamis in fact. Not to mention about a hundred other delights.
