Canning fish products at home requires heat so you can't reproduce tuna pouches at home.

Across the border they also have seasoned chicken breasts.

Found this in a couple places, Safeway and Walmart in Calgary. Both those stores also carry Tuna steaks in a foil pack in a couple different flavours but I didn't buy any of those.

I also discovered, new to me anyway, another flavour of tuna: Garlic and Hot Pepper. As if I need another way to repel people when backpacking. I am actually rather partial to the Spicy Thai Chili flavour which is good on crackers for a lunch item.

Of interest to you gram conscious folks, both contain 85 grams of tuna but the canned product weighs 117 grams, the foil pack 95 grams so you save approx 22 grams with the foil. And it packs smaller once used. It all ads up!

We used two packages of the foil packed tuna with 2 packs of Side Kick noodles for tuna-noodle casserole on the trail. weighed about 442g and fed 4 of us 285 calories a piece for supper. It was really good too!

I'm bumping this thread hoping someone has the current whereabouts of foil pack tuna in the Vancouver area. I've checked Safeway, Nesters and Whole Foods in the Cambie/Main area with no luck. I can't say I've ever seen it in Canada but from the looks of this thread it can be found. Does any one know where I can get it? If I can find it it will be a staple of next week's Nootka trail outing.

Am going to check Famous Foods tonight. Will advise if located. Thanks all!

I LOATHE Walmart, but I go there to find foil pack tuna. Last time I was there, they were $1.50 each. Ridiculously cheap.

@Coastal

I got a couple of packs in Safeway no more than two to three months ago, took it on the WCT with me. It was the one by Lion's Gate hospital in North Van.

Safeway and Save On in Abbotsford carries it. Also, Safeway in Linden carries both the tuna and chicken.

Cheers!

'Scuse my ignorance but where is Linden? Only thing that comes up on Google is near Kaleden. Would love some of the chicken.

8071 Guide Meridian Road, Lynden Washington. Cross the border at Aldergrove and head due South. Can't miss it.

Just for the record, whenever I find foil pack tuna I clear out the store of it. Sorry! [8D]

Safeway. Only place I've ever seen it. Try other ones! Langley carries it. The Vancouver stores might not carry it because they figure the clientele is too uppity or discerning or something. Just kidding. []

Some of them even carry tuna steaks with sauces as well. Mix it up with those microwavable Bistro Express rice packs. Mmmmmm!

Suddenly it all makes sense. Won't you play fair and leave some for me?
