Default Dehydrator Q's

I have done a lot of backpacking but not done any dehydrating. I enjoy doing hikes that take more than a week. I have heard good and bad things about dehydrators. Does it really work and does it taist the same. Being a man, I dont know anything about dehydrators. Do i make one? Do i buy one? What stuff can I put in a dehydraton? Can I put ground beef in a dehydrator? Please fill me in on this mysterious subject for me. I just need to know the basics.

If you do a search here on CT for "dehydrator", you'll find lots of valuable info. Quick and dirty answer: dehydrating = good, and you can dehydrate almost anything!

I want to get into dehydrating too. The problem is, is that we can't find one ANYWHERE in Victoria. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to get one, and what kind?

If you want a really delish dehydrated meal, dehydrate bbq beef on a bun, without the bun. My son did this on a 5 day hike, he said it looked like sh*% but it tasted like heaven.

Now you need my famous recipe for bbq beef on a bun......only 29.95 by email and telephone offer today only[8D]

I'm presently dehydrating yellow peppers and asparagus. Last week I dried about 7 lbs of strawberries. Almost any vegetable can be dehydrated and used in your favorite pasta dishes.
