Default MSR Snowshoes

Hey Folks,

Just went out and bought a pair of MSR Snowshoes. I got the cheaper pair at MEC, $113.00 I thought I may not like them. I didn't think they would allow me to "Float" in deep snow and thought the looked a little plasticY.

I gave them a go yesterday up Seymore area and WOW I was really impressed. The trail was pretty packed, so I just used my regular hiking boots. After a while I'd do the two step forward, one step back scenario and decided to put the snowshoes on.

It was like wearing crampons. They dug in real nice, didn't slide, and were easy to put on. But the real test lay ahead. We went of the trail, and into the forest. Didn't sink one bit. I thought maybe the snow was compact in that area.

It started snowing really hard at this point, and the wind picked up. My son and I decided to dig a hole and have lunch. I took off my snowshoes, took one step, and was instantly shorter than my 10 year old. I was to my waist in snow.

Yep they float too.

Keep on Trekking

I looked at those as well but I was concerned with the floatation. I'm sure you're a lot lighter than me. Being 6'10" and 270lbs without a pack requires some serious shoes!

I was talking to hikerboy about these as well.. It is from an article in the showshoeing forum.

I know Outdoorguy is very fond of these shoes you got.. He said they were actually rated #1 for 2-3 yrs in a row by this magazine (can't remember the name now).

I followed a pair of MSR tracks back down a pretty steep trail on Rainer last weekend. They did extremely well on a packed trail, probably better than the rest of our's did. However, I wouldn't trust them on the hills in loose stuff.

See you on the mountain!
