I just ordered my first pair of snow shoes and am looking into getting some more winter camping gear.
I'd envision some winter hikes like Joffre lakes, garibaldi, elfin lakes, but may eventually branch out into rockies/elsewhere.
currently i have various weight baselayers/midlayers, a warm polartech alpha active insulation (
this) , softshell pants, and goretex shell top + bottom, and my sleeping bag is pretty solid 3 season (western mountaineering badger, -10C) + thermarest neoair (R 3.something).
I'm not sure how warm of an insulating layer most people typically take around lower mainland camping in winter?
Should i be looking at a medium fill synthetic product that I can also use for shoulder season given how wet things can get around here? say for example
this from Nunatak in 3.6oz/yard climashield. The 5oz/yard looks too bulky for fall/spring.
or should i look at a heavier duty winter down jacket (
this from same company.. i need tall/custom sizing) perhaps then negating my need to get a warmer sleeping bag (also thinking about getting a synthetic quilt for over-top down sleeping bag)
thanks in advance for feedback
