Default Bug bivy & tarp

Found an OR bug bivy on sale last fall - had to buy it.

Any advice from those who have used one with tarp for shelter? Practice setting up the combo is pretty important, ground sheet of some sort a good idea?

Cheers!

Using one with a tarp will be fun - far less condensation than a tent!

I have no real advice except to say that I used a similar set up years ago and I liked it.

I always use a polycro groundsheet to protect from additional moisture and dirt. One for your bivy would weigh no more than maybe an ounce and a half.

Did an early season trip a few years back where Packrat and I both used a bivy sack and sil tarp. We both just put our thermarests inside the bivy, underneath our sleeping bags. Worked great. Here's a link to our trip report.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try my Siltarp 2 out this year..

I'd like to try a hammock, too, but I sleep on my stomach, so prolly wouldn't work.
