I would guess 250, plus or minus 50. It seemed like there were a lot of staff there, just like the good old days. But matters of substance were decided at AGM's then, and are not now. Tasty snacks after the meeting also.

The election results are in.
You and 47,523 of your fellow Co-op members voted in four candidates to help lead MEC. This was the largest voter turnout in 15 years – thank you for contributing to your Co-op's future.

Congratulations to our new directors:
Ellen Pekeles
Jonathan Gallo
Tamara Paton
Daniel Blanche (one-year term)
The special resolution about credit notes passed.

Steve:

You lost me there ... too many negatives 'denounce', 'failure', 'not being manipulated'. What was he saying?

Unfortunately, I can't tell from the election results which candidate was nominated and who wasn't since I didn't keep my election package. Also, there seems to be nothing on the MEC site about the election now except the results.

Maybe the larger voter participation does express a dissatisfaction with the board but it only created a more even voting result across the nominated and not nominated candidates. Without it, perhaps the nominated candidates would have done much better. Also, the Board Chair not having been reelected speaks pages.

Default MEC Director Election

It is MEC election time again. I too get offended by MEC trying to influence the vote with "recommended" candidates.

That said I'll take a hard look at all the candidates in any case, with a bias for voting for the candidates who are not wanted.

Members - please vote!!

Happy Trails

It would be particularly interesting to see the bios of the candidates that were nominated by members but were not allowed by the board to stand on the ballot...

Remember when Eddie Bauer was a real "outdoor store", and is now just a clothing store with Christmas gadgets? Look on the bright side - MEC is still better than Canadian Tire. MEC is just responding to what management feels is the "market". And in fairness they are also constrained with what products they can carry from the various "brand" name companies. If they are an entry point for folks getting into the outdoors - all the better. Check out some past Club Tread threads on where do you buy your gear to get a feel for how the more experienced gear buying crowd are finding their gear. MEC fills a niche and I am glad they are there. OK - all that said - get out and vote for directors who will be less current "fad" oriented and more back to Mountain Equipment Coop's roots. (MEC sounds too much like GAP - yuck.)

Funny you should mention Gap. It's newer logo is very similar to MEC's newer logo. Gap started in '69, MEC in '71.
And BTW, I've heard that older members of MEC say it as "em-ee-see", while newer members say "mec". I use the first version as that's what I heard when joining years ago (member number below 7 digits).

I'm going to return a paddle to MEC for exchange. The little clip that joins the halves broke, I went there to buy a new one (the clip, not the paddle) and they don't have it, won't get it, don't care, more than happy to throw a perfectly good paddle away (Hello? What about their commitment to sustainability? http://www.mec.ca/AST/ContentPrimary...ainability.jsp ) and refund my full purchase price. (Hello? What about their commitment to affordable gear? I've had the paddle about three years, why should other members be paying more so it can be thrown away?)
When I bought the paddle I was told the clip is readily available because they do break occasionally in cold weather. To me "readily available" means they have it at the store during paddling season!

Absolutely ridiculous, yet three different staffers suggested I just return it, so that's what I'll do. I no longer feel any loyalty at all to MEC. I do apologise to the planet, but I feel rather forced into this.

And it's always been Emm Ee Cee to me.
