Default New Outdoor Store in Chilliwack

Mt Waddingtons Outdoors has been open for about a week in Chilliwack in the old BC Connections/Peggy's Donair building just north of Garrison Crossing at Keith Wilson and Vedder Road.

You might think it's odd that it's called Mt Waddington's Outdoors and has a big picture and logo of Mt Slesse on it but it turns out the proprietor's name is Sam Waddington so...

This isn't the second coming of Vedder Mountain Feild Supply. That place was full of overpriced crap of the quality you might otherwise find in Canadian Tire. This store is different. They are a more boutique version of a VPO or Escape Route it looks like to me.

Being my first time in the new store I walked around to check it out. Scrambles Guide, Alpine Select etc., check. Clothes from Smartwool, Kuhl, Westcomb, Sherpa, Chlorophylle, Mtn Hardwear etc.. Boots from Keen, La Sportiva, Patagonia etc. Rock shoes - Evolv or La Sportiva. Bouldering mats. Packs from Osprey. Full climbing rack selection (Metolius, BD) Camping stoves, camping gas, cartridges, plates etc, water bottles, headlamps, all that. Even a nook with a fireplace and a couple couches next to the book shelf!

All in all this looks like a really good addition to the range of outdoor stores in the Valley and a very convenient location just north of the Chilliwack River turnoff.

Also they had Best of the Banff tix for Mission in a month.

That's a good question. I didn't see any but I may not have been looking for them either or they might be going to get them in when more snow falls.

They do rentals of all sorts of gear, it was a question I had for Sam when I was in yesterday. If your in need of something just give him a call and ask.
So far I liked what I saw and will be back for sure!

I was in there today too and really liked the place. I'm relieved to see they've gone the good quality gear route and the place really has a nice feel to it. I'll do my part to support this store as well.

Nice to know it's not a spin off of Vedder Mountain Field Supply. We'll have to check it out, thanks for posting[8D].

I've been in this store a couple of times and it looks amazing! Sam Waddington is the owner and provides phonomenal customer service...I'm hoping he'll get lots of community support. I was looking for a pair of hiking pants with 34" inseam...he didn't have any in stock but offered to do a special order...also very willing to take the time to answer any questions...great store!!!

just for fun we strolled the Whistler village, gear selection is OK, prices are not that over the top, if knowing items, found some dead bird jackets for 1100$ and up, and then another snow bunny style ski jacket for over 2000$. sales chick said she sold a few of the 2K ones [:0]

This is great. It sucks to have to drive into Vancouver to rent gear. I will definitely be checking this place out.
