Default Boot repair?

So...I have a pair of Solomon hiking boots that are nearing the end of their expected life after many many km's and memorable trips. These have been great boots for me....and of course the manufacturer (to keep the brand "fresh") does not have them in the product line any more.

These boots fit me so well I am considering taking them over to a shoe/boot repair place and seeing if I can make em last another season. Maybe get the insole replaced and some patch-ups...there isn't anything seriously wrong with the boots but I imagine soon that will be the case.

Anyone done this with a pair of boots and had success or is a guy asking for a boot blowout while out on a nice long trek?

I spent $100 on getting some old friends repaired. To me it was worth it. I have 4 pairs of boots but my clunky "old school" leather ones have served me well over the years.
Actually, the guy that did the work was a custom boot maker/repair place. After he was finished they fit me better than they ever had before.
