Default Non 911 emergency numbers?

Hi,

We bought a SAT phone and I'm trying to put emergency numbers in. In the US the Sat providers have to route 911 calls. In Canada that is not required so you have to program important numbers.

I'm surprised to learn there is no normal number alternative to 911. I know there is a lot of smart stuff going on when you dial 911, but if I get dropped to a call center somewhere that is able to route my call, I would be very happy.

All the police branches show 911 and a non emergency local number.

Any suggestions / hints / tips / pointers?

Bas

The RCMP is in charge of dispatching SAR, so you may as well start by calling them directly. Get the numbers for Squamish / Whistler / Pemberton / Chilliwack / Hope / Wherever you like to hike.

so what happens if you dial 911 on a sat phone in canada? it goes nowhere? I would have thought it would go somewhere. (maybe the nearest location to where the phone is registered too aka vancouver 911 etc) and could then be forward on once you told them where you were.
