Default B. Diamond snow baskets?

Seems like no one is stocking them this time of year. Anyone seen any store with them in your travels? MEC won't restock them until August. Valhalla in Abby has some on order, but won't get them in for a month. Attempted Slollicum today and the pole without the basket is sinking to the hand in all this deep snow.

That's too bad. You could always try my patented AOL CD snow baskets. They're free and they have more surface area than the Black Diamond option. Just be sure to use a number of CDs and to use lots of duct tape around the edges in case they break. I was stuck without my regular snow baskets once and these ones did the trick.

If there are any problems shipping to Canada feel free to PM me and you can get them shipped to me and I can forward them to you (or bring them back in 3 weeks when I come home)

I had a pole like that. So I tossed it into the garbage and got me a newer set ....

Had one I liked without a basket, a good one to stab hard snow with and somethings a little like an ice axe. I have breaking a few inches off the end on two separate occassions, decided it was getting to short to me. Bye to the recyle...

Did you check both local MEC's North Van might have some left.

Escape route in Whistler or VPO in Squamish or any of the other local gear shops, somebody has to have some kicking around.

Thank you. MEC Van. checked NV for me and they didn't have any either. They said they go through a lot of these, so it must be a common problem. Lost the other one today, but I noticed right away and was able to find it, thankfully.

Thanks for all the info. and suggestions everyone, much appreciated. : )

Hi John and Katie:

The website has a "store look-up" function.

http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...34374302888795

It looks like Longueil, Barrie and Halifax are showing some on-hands. You can phone the MEC Service Centre and see if they can pull them from those stores for you. (If MEC doesn't have stock in the warehouse, the shipping out of those other stores is usually free). This often works for other items, too, when they sell out in the bigger locations but get stuck in the smaller stores.

See if it works. Hope that helps!

Orange Pekoe.

Thanks a bunch O. Pekoe and Farmer. I've monkeyed something together for now and will wait until VPO gets them in.

Thanks again everyone. : )
