Hey guys,

I was originally looking at buying boots but ended up getting a pair of Keen Targhee II shoes. This weekend I took em on a hike to Lynn Peak. They felt pretty good on my feet but there was some initial pain on the outside of my right foot.

I'm happy with them but upon examination at the end of the hike I found one of stitches on the right foot had came off. I snipped it so I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse. Also, the midsole seems too fragile and is already shredding, maybe this is too be expected?

I'm considering returning it and exchanging it but the Keens looked like the most durable shoe at MEC.

Any opinions? Should I return/exchange them? Any other shoe recommendations would be great!

I had the same problems with these shoes and didn't even get two seasons out of them. The soles peeled off in just about every location.

I now wear Patagonia Drifters - still going strong after 3 seasons and very happy.

Is this the one you were referring too?

I ask because there is another Drifter that has all leather construction.

Had Targhee 2's for three years. Did the Juan de Fuca right out of the box with no blisters. They fit wide which is great for my feet. They even held their water-proofing for about a year. Never had any issues and I pushed them to the limit.

But that said, there are better shoes out there.

Nice, vibram outsoles. I checked them out on REI and customer reviews look solid. I'll give them a look today at MEC if I can convince myself to go out in this blazing heat.
