Default Guinns Pass Peak

Guinns Pass Peak is a good destination to get away from other hikers along Galatea Creek. Some hikers go to Lillian lake and others further to Galatea Lakes and some further to Guinns Pass and some to the peak. Views were good from the peak but smoke blocked a lot of the views. You can continue over the pass to Ribbon Lake and out on Ribbon Creek if you can handle the chains downclimb at Ribbon Falls.

Looks good. Glad you had some views in this haze. First pic is great; years ago I went up that way to Kidd South, then trashed down one of these gullies directly to main trail.

Are these bear diggings?

I have read about going up Mt.Kidd from here. It looks like a bit of a scramble. I have considered taking that gulley down just after the peak. You can see it from the Galatea Creek trail and it looks doable. Lots of bear diggings but no bears.

This is a great hike, totally underrated. I hiked in from Ribbon Creek, camped at Ribbon Lake and then up and over Guinns Pass, out through Galatea.

It has a triangle of opportunities, including coming in from Bullers Pass. I don’t think you can go wrong with this area for a quick overnighter or a long day. The pictures prove this!

What is worth mentioning is that nowdays there is new trail to Guinn Pass; old one would split from main trail ~10 min before Lilian Lake, but parts of it were apparently washed out in 2013 floods. New trail continues to Lilian Lake and up to lower Galatea lake, then switchbacks back lower slopes of Tower outlier to the Pass. This pic, lifted from here, shows part of new trail as it contours talus above lower Galatea lake:

Would be nice to know which route did you take Ger?

This now interests me enough & since it's been awhile I visited this area might head up there next week as smoke has lifted, at least temporarily

I took the new trail. It is much nicer. The old trail is growing in and I don't think anyone takes it and everyone should let it disappear. The old trail could be tough to follow due to the damage and it growing in and you don't get to see Lillian and Galataea Lakes.
