Hey folks ... Just another "short, steep + scenic" nugget to report on. Mt Sabine overlooks Canal Flats BC. We had goings on in invermere so we scooted down to do this short little hike up to the local overlook.
There's a backstory. In late spring 1987 when we lived in Golden BC, we drove to Cranbrook hospital for the ultrasound of our as yet unborn first child. While passing Canal Flats I said to Mrs Xj6response, "we'll have to come back down here one day and head up to the overlook, the views are very nice". Well 34 years later we finally did it 👍
It's a short 5km return easy stroll along a skidder track through a logged over stand if Ponderosa Pine + Douglas Fir. Quite nice. The last few hundred meters is a solid climb up an ATV track. The views up top are really nice. I saw a big grizzly at the foot of Mt Sabine so heads up.
This is a nice, quick jaunt that rewards with soft breezes and pretty views of Columbia Lake and points south to Cranbrook. Easy to get to, although the main access road is very active with logging trucks.
Here's a few pics:
